Welcome, H.O.M.E. Bed & Breakfast and house of
wheelchair accessible design examples
Hard to believe that I’m talking about the summer
we just had. I’m no where near ready to welcome autumn. However,
as I reflect on the past few months, I realize that we¹ve had a fairly
busy summer at Welcome, H.O.M.E. Bed & Breakfast.
Our overnight guests included some repeat traffic,
which is always encouraging. We’ve had people who made reservations long
in advance and others who were just taking a leisurely ride around the
area and stopped in to see if we had a vacancy for the night. A number of
families that include a child with a physical disability have come to
Welcome, H.O.M.E. from the Chicago area. (We learned that Shriner’s
Children's Hospital keeps our brochure on their bulletin board). More
often than not this is the first time the child has been able to reach a
faucet on a sink or been able to easily roll through the house chasing
the siblings! Lots of giggles and BIG grins...
Our overnight guests have been an interesting mix of
people. Residents from a group home in West Bend made this their vacation
destination. Two high school friends (one from Seattle the other from
Virginia) were here for their 25th class reunion. Several families were
attending weddings. One family was participating in the Riveredge Bike
ride. Other guests were attending seminars or conventions - with topics
ranging from square dancing to a national dog show.
The last week of August we had a number of folks here
for the Harley Birthday celebration. For a couple of nights our guests
were three physicians and their wives from Phoenix, Arizona. After taking
an evening walk through the Village one of the wives came back quite
impressed - she had seen a 2004 truck at Lochen’s that she had not yet
seen. Sue is a fleet manager for 8 dealerships in the Phoenix area! We
also hosted a married couple from New Mexico - both road their bikes to
Wisconsin. Welcome, H.O.M.E. was also home base for a single fellow from
Chicago. They all had a great time, loved the quaintness of Newburg and
said they’d be back again.
Remember, while the B&B and ground are extremely
wheelchair friendly, Welcome, H.O.M.E. Bed and Breakfast is open to the
public. The price for an overnight stay is still only $50 per night. Gift
certificates are available. The holiday season is not far off. Need a gift
for a parent, a friend, a co-worker ... who may enjoy a country get away?
Or, do you have family coming into town for a visit and not enough room
for them under your roof? Weekends in October are booked, as is the
Thanksgiving weekend - BUT, we¹ve got room at the inn other dates. Call
if you’re interested, would like to see what we offer or have any
questions about accessible design. Tours of the entire home are free of
charge - by appointment.
Welcome, H.O.M.E. is also a great day trip destination or an evening
meeting location. The West Bend Lioness Club had a BBQ meeting here in
June. The West Bend area Multiple Sclerosis support group had a picnic in
August and have a fall meeting planned in October.
Did you know the lower level of Welcome, H.O.M.E. is available for small
group events - family celebrations, business or school in-service days,
club or organization meetings? While there is no set fee, a donation is
certainly appreciated. Mark your calendars ! On November 14, 15
& 16 ( Fri. 5:00- 9:00, Sat & Sun 9:00 - 5:00) this cozy space will be
the site of a Homemade Holiday. Local artists and crafters
will be selling their quilts, floral arrangements, gifts and crafts. For
anyone interested tours of the entire house will be available. Welcome,
H.O.M.E. Inc. is a non-profit organization that depends on private
donations. We do not receive any government, any tax or any United Way

Our program is operated entirely by volunteers. We
have NO paid staff! If you shop at any Pick N Save grocery store in
Wisconsin - you can help support Welcome, H.O.M.E. Inc. and it won¹t cost
you a cent! Stop at the customer service desk (you just need to do this
once) and ask that Welcome, House Of Modification Examples, Inc. be a
recipient of your We Care dollars. Our # is 923675. Each time

Since we have no paid staff, it¹s volunteers that keep
this place operating smoothly. Wednesday mornings at 8:00 am is the usual
gathering time. Typically you’ll see "locals" Bob Schwinn, Leo Miller and
Ernie Pochert joined by Orv and Guenther. Rick Gramoll, (his father
Harry) and friends Nick & Charlie fulfill some of their National Honor
Society volunteer hours by helping with special projects that need
attention at Welcome, H.O.M.E.
On Sunday, September 21 we held our first "Celebrate Autumn On The
Prairie"- a day of family fun that included breakfast, bake sale,
quilts, music and kids crafts. It was good to see so many neighbors -
some who had never been here before.
Congratulations Florence McHugh on winning the quilt
raffle. Even though it rained (yes, rained - can you believe it after
weeks of drought?) people are already asking about next year...
This event was made possible by donations from: No No, Brennan Totten,
Dale Sand, John Bliese, West Bend Community Foundation, Wal Mart, via
Travis Krell, Dairy Promotion Council of Ozaukee County, It’s A Stitch
Quilting Guild). It also took lots of volunteers to make the day
happen. Thank you for all your help - Amanda & Marge Grotelueschen, Millie
Hawig, Marie Falkner, Jane & Jim Derks, Kay Bliese, Ann & Ken Zemanek,
Leo Miller, Ernie Pochert, Harry, Lisa, Rick Gramoll, Nick Mathier, Mary
Ann Ihm, Betsy Winquist, Guenther & Mary Ann, Carol Budzinski, Drew. We
could NOT have done this without you .
Along with the end of summer comes a couple of Welcome, H.O.M.E. annual
fund raising events / sales.

sale price of each book supports Welcome, H.O.M.E. SE Wisconsin books

Newburg Lions Club –
Fallen Bridges
The Newburg Lioness Club would like to thank the
Village of Newburg and Town of Trenton that supported our Annual Village
of Newburg Rummage Sale, the always popular Car Show and the arts and
crafts exhibition in Firemen’s Park. We received many compliments on the
events that took place. We thank the Newburg Fire Department and the
firefighters who explained the functions of the new Tanker/Pumper. You can
truly be PROUD of your fire department. We thank the EMT’s who did the
blood pressure and screening and the heart checks. We thank Sandy
Stockhausen and her crew for doing the diabetes screening. We appreciate
the Edward Jones Investment Corp. and Rory Demmer for doing the
fingerprinting of the children, taking their pictures and thank the
village officers for helping her. We had several village and town
residents that helped in the refreshment stand all day long and some just
a couple of hours. We thank them ALL for donating their time.
We also thank all the people who purchased tickets for
our big raffle. This is one of our biggest money makers of which all the
profits go back into the community and Lion endorsed charities. This
year’s big winners were Willard Mueller, Jr. , James B. Esselmann and
James Mader, plus 100 other winners. We plan on having this raffle again
next year as well as the Rummage Sale and Car Show. If anyone has any
suggestions on how we could improve these events, please let any of the
Lion or Lioness members know.
Our Golf Tourney was a success, but the Steak Fry
sizzled out. The Golf Tournament was co-sponsored by the West Bend Lakes
and Soerens Ford. Next year we plan on doubling the golf event by getting
more local golfers involved with many prizes and eliminating the steak
fry. The Big Raffle drawing will be in the afternoon of the tournament
with many mini-raffles and games. We also want to thank anyone who donated
prizes for the raffles held at both events. These raffles helped to make
them successful.
Our meetings take place one the second Monday of each
month and are at the West Bend Lakes (spring through fall) and Sandy’s
Parkside Inn (winter months). If you have any questions about the Lions or
would like to join call 338-8204. We need new people, ideas and we need
YOU.
